Carbon TS: Tripod for Competitive Precision Shooting

Competitive precision shooting places specific demands on a tripod.

In disciplines such as NRL and PRS, shooters may need to move between positions, establish a stable support on uneven terrain and adjust the tripod efficiently during timed stages.

The Zenelli Carbon TS is designed around this type of field use, combining a carbon fiber structure with a leg architecture developed for rapid deployment, portability and repeatable support.

What Makes a Competition Shooting Tripod Different?

A competition tripod cannot be evaluated by maximum load capacity alone.

The tripod may support a substantial rifle system, but it also needs to remain practical when moving between positions and adapting to different shooting heights.

Structural rigidity, leg geometry, locking mechanisms, deployment speed, working height and overall weight all contribute to how the tripod behaves during a stage.

The objective is to provide a consistent mechanical platform without making the equipment unnecessarily difficult to transport or reposition.

Designed for NRL and PRS-Style Competition

NRL and PRS-style shooting can involve changing positions and adapting to terrain or stage requirements within limited time.

This makes tripod operation particularly important.

Adjustments should be straightforward, and the shooter needs to be able to establish the required configuration without unnecessary procedures.

The Carbon TS approaches the tripod as part of the complete field setup, where stability and speed of operation need to coexist.

Reverse-Opening Leg System

One of the defining features of the Carbon TS is its reverse-opening leg architecture.

The system is designed to allow the legs to move rapidly from their transport position into the working configuration.

This can reduce the number of movements required when deploying the tripod or transitioning between positions.

For competitive use, where equipment may be repeatedly opened, repositioned and packed during the same event, deployment becomes an important part of the tripod's functionality.

Carbon Fiber and Structural Efficiency

Carbon fiber is used in the Carbon TS because of its potential to combine structural stiffness with relatively low mass.

This relationship is particularly useful for field equipment that needs to be carried repeatedly while still providing a rigid support platform.

Carbon fiber alone, however, does not determine tripod performance.

Tube diameter, laminate construction, number of sections, interfaces between tubes and the locking system all contribute to the behaviour of the complete structure.

The tripod therefore needs to be considered as an integrated mechanical system.

Stability Under Load

A rifle tripod experiences more than a simple vertical static load.

The way the rifle is supported, the shooter's position and the geometry of the tripod can introduce forces in different directions.

Structural behaviour therefore depends on the complete configuration.

A wider stance can change the support geometry. Extending the legs changes the structure. Uneven terrain can require different leg lengths.

For this reason, a useful shooting tripod must provide configuration flexibility while maintaining a predictable support platform.

Carbon Fiber, Recoil and Vibration

The use of carbon fiber should not be interpreted as meaning that the tripod automatically absorbs recoil or eliminates vibration.

Recoil behaviour depends on the complete shooting system, including the rifle, support interface, tripod geometry, shooter input and ground conditions.

Similarly, vibration is influenced by mass, stiffness, joints, interfaces and structural geometry in addition to material properties.

The role of the Carbon TS is to provide a rigid and repeatable mechanical platform rather than to claim control of recoil through carbon fiber alone.

Adapting to Uneven Terrain

Field competition rarely provides perfectly level ground.

Independent leg positioning and telescopic adjustment allow the tripod to be configured around slopes, irregular surfaces and different shooting positions.

This flexibility allows the shooter to establish the required support geometry without depending on all three feet being positioned at the same height.

The Carbon TS also incorporates a bubble level, providing a direct visual reference when setting up the tripod.

Integrated Accessory Interface

The Carbon TS includes a lateral 3/8"-16 mounting point for compatible accessories.

This allows additional equipment to be integrated into the tripod configuration without modifying the primary support interface.

For field use, an integrated mounting point provides additional flexibility while keeping the tripod itself at the center of the equipment setup.

Portability Between Stages

Competition equipment needs to perform when deployed, but it also needs to be moved.

Rifle, optics, ammunition and accessories already contribute substantial weight to the complete equipment package.

The tripod therefore needs to balance structural requirements against portability.

Reducing unnecessary tripod mass can make movement between positions and stages easier, but weight reduction should not come at the expense of the structural characteristics required from the support.

This balance between rigidity and portability is one of the main reasons for using carbon fiber in the Carbon TS.

Repeatability Rather Than Promised Accuracy

A tripod does not determine shooting accuracy by itself.

Rifle configuration, ammunition, optics, environmental conditions, shooter technique and the interface between the rifle and support all contribute to the result.

The function of the tripod is more specific.

It provides a mechanical platform that can be deployed and configured repeatedly, allowing the shooter to build a support position around a consistent piece of equipment.

This distinction is important when evaluating a tripod for competitive use.

Designed for Dynamic Field Competition

A competition shooting tripod needs to combine requirements that can conflict with each other.

It should be rigid without becoming unnecessarily heavy. It should provide multiple positioning options without making adjustment complicated. It should deploy quickly while remaining structurally consistent once configured.

The Carbon TS is developed around this balance.

The Zenelli Carbon TS is a carbon fiber tripod designed for NRL and PRS-style precision shooting, with a focus on rapid deployment, structural rigidity, terrain adaptability and portability between shooting positions.
